For Moms who want to lift more than their babies!

With the toll that pregnancy and childbirth typically take on a woman’s body, modifications to fitness regimes are to be expected. This does not mean that we are ‘broken’. This simply means that it might take some women a little longer to reach their goals. Whether it’s diastastis recti (also known as abdominal separation), pelvic floor dysfunction and/or relaxin is still circulating in your system, I understand, I’ve been there.

Post-baby workouts tend to focus on shedding extra pounds to get back to pre-pregnancy weight, and rehabilitative exercises to pull stretched bodies back together. This makes perfect sense but, there is definitely a need for overall strength training. There still seems to be a general misconception that being a Mom is about being ‘soft’ both mentally and physically. When I had my first child many years ago, every “Mom and Baby” exercise program I attended focused mainly on the babies and they really had little to do with the Moms. Although I appreciated the social aspect of these groups I wanted and I needed more out these programs. I wanted to be a part of something that made me feel like I was still my own woman and not ONLY a Mom. More importantly I wanted to be around other like-minded Moms - Moms who understood the importance of giving yourself permission to do what makes you feel good. For me this has always been Fitness. This is why I created the One Tough Mother Program.

It's no exaggeration when I say that training with Jen through two maternity leaves and one pregnancy has been transformative. Going to her classes helped me establish a daily routine, built my community of likeminded (and totally badass) moms, and pushed me to get as fit as I was pre- pregnancy. Jennifer is not only an excellent trainer, she's an amazing friend and coach. I've been training with Jen for 3 years - I started out as part of her Mom & Baby program which is one of a kind, and continued training with her weekly once I was back to work. She's seen me through two kids, and while her workouts kick butt, her personal touch is what keeps me coming back. Both my children needed a little love halfway through class and each day Jen would rush over pick up my kids and give them attention while I was able to focus on myself for one whole hour, which as a new mom is priceless. Her workouts are tough, and challenge any level of fitness, and she's aware of the struggles of the new mom - from weight loss issues, to sleep deprivation to being able to help diagnose diastasis recti. I've recommended her program to countless moms and every one of them has become a convert.  She is building a community of strong women, both physically and mentally and understands (being a mom to two herself) that when you take care of yourself, you're able to better care for those around you.

I started working out with Jen when I was six months postpartum after my second baby. I was very out of shape and was looking to lose weight and get fit. I almost procrastinated going that first day but I am so glad I didn't. Jen's workouts have pushed me harder than I would be able to push myself on my own and have helped me to get more fit than I've been in years and accomplish skills I've never even tried before (hello box jumps). I've lost 50lbs and can see definition all over my body, my core feels strong and I can goof around with my kids without feeling tired. Aside from all of this, joining Jen's Program was the the best decision I've made for my mat leave. Jen was so welcoming and inclusive which makes the culture of her groups very inclusive as well. If you're considering working out with Jen, you won't regret it but you may look back and wish you had done it sooner (or at least I did [😁] ).
